Honorable Judge Sidney H.Stein, US District Court Southern District of New York, Senior Counsel Mark Cohen, IP Attaché Mike Mangelson, Attorney-Advisor Larry Lian--all three work for the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office), accompanied by former AIT Economic Officer Kris Kvols, visited the Intellectual Property Branch of the Taiwan High Prosecutors Office (this Office) on March 31, 2017, and had a meeting.

The Head Prosecutor Ching-tang Shih, Prosecutor Hsueh-mei Lo, Shuo-chun Chu and Ping-lin Tien of this Office, as well as the Director Chiu-ming Tsai and Prosecutor Wei-mu Su--both from the Department of International and Cross-Strait Legal Affairs, all attended this meeting.

Both sides discussed various topics including: the interaction between this Office and the IP Court, how Taiwan can achieve more efficient and transparent justice relating to dealing with IP cases, the challenge of evidence-gathering in cross-border cases and cooperation with the U.S. and China, the enforcement of Taiwan’s Trade Secret Act--especially since violations of the Act was criminalized in 2013. The meeting lasted almost two hours, and was very beneficial to all.
